Lebanon is turning toward clean energy to rebuild a stronger, more sustainable economy. The government’s 2025–2030 renewable roadmap sets an ambitious goal — achieving 30% renewable electricity consumption by 2030. This marks a bold leap from just 3% in 2014, signaling Lebanon’s determination to move away from diesel dependency and unreliable power generation.
Shifting From Crisis to Clean Energy
For decades, Lebanon’s electricity system has relied heavily on diesel generators. Frequent fuel shortages, high costs, and pollution have created long-standing challenges for both households and industries. The Lebanon Renewable Energy Plan 2030 aims to change that by promoting solar, wind, and hydropower as key pillars of energy security.

The National Renewable Energy Action Plan (NREAP) outlines the installation of 450 megawatts (MW) of wind capacity and 300 MW of solar photovoltaic systems by 2030. To achieve these goals, Lebanon will need an estimated USD 2.2 billion in investment for renewable capacity expansion. This is a significant but attainable figure if supported by international funding, development agencies, and private-sector participation.

Partnerships with the European Union, the United Nations, and regional investors are paving the way for solar parks, wind farms, and hybrid energy systems. The roadmap also aligns with broader regional trends toward green transition and energy diversification.
In addition to infrastructure, the plan calls for modernizing the national power grid. Integrating renewable energy sources requires advanced technology, smart-grid systems, and stronger regulations to manage power distribution efficiently. By updating its energy infrastructure, Lebanon aims to reduce blackouts, improve grid reliability, and lower generation costs.
